What is holistic nutrition?
Holistic Nutrition is the focus of eating good, natural, whole foods to prevent illness and health disorders and promote wellness in the body. It makes sense that if the fuel we give our body to work with is of poor-quality, then our health will be of poor quality. Holistic nutrition also looks at the intimate interrelationship of mind, body and spirit: they must all be in balance for us to feel our best. It’s grounded in the idea that each person is biochemically unique, and because of that, we all have different nutritional needs.
What does a holistic nutritionist do?
Understanding that each person is unique in their genetic makeup and their lifestyle, a holistic nutritionist looks at all the different elements in our life that affect our health: the food we eat, how we move, where we work, our personal relationships, our stress levels. We take all this information and identify any nutritional imbalances and lifestyle habits and then guide and educate our clients to achieve their personal wellness goals. Often this is in the form of meal plans, grocery tours, cooking tutorials, public lectures and sometimes working with other health care professionals to provide clients with all the tools they need to thrive and feel their best!
Do I need a holistic nutritionist?
It’s funny, because you think my answer would just be YES, OF COURSE YOU DO. After all, I want you to want my services right? But the truth is, learning to take action and responsibility for your health is a very personal thing. Sometimes, especially in the beginning of our personal growth journeys, we’re not ready to take any physical action or make any changes. What we really need is to internally evaluate ourselves, our belief system, our relationship with our bodies and really decide if we’re ready to move forward and make changes, or if we’re perfectly happy where we are.
That being said, a holistic nutritionist can be a wonderful tool to help you make those changes once you’ve decided that’s the path for you!
